Yeah, it’s been obvious for quite a few weeks now, but my interest in this site isn’t what it used to be and probably won’t be raised significantly under Nintendo actually starts showing new characters again. So don’t expect a whole lot of updates for a while, since I’ll be focusing on the forums at Nintendo 3DS Community, the news at Nintendo 3DS Daily and the Super Smash Bros Forums also run by my network instead of this one.
Sorry about any potential inconvenience it may cause. The site will probably return for good some time in the New Year, complete with a redesign to stop people getting it confused with an official one.
Well, you knew it was coming folks (and in more ways than one given how I forgot to post about this on Friday), but now Nintendo has officially shown a Super Mario Galaxy themed stage in the Wii U version of the new Super Smash Bros title. Here’s a picture showing it in action:
So what can we see here? Well for one thing, it seems like the level is inspired by a mixture of the Gateway Galaxy from the first game and the Faceship from the second, so elements from both titles will likely be included in the area. We can also see that some weird lookin object (perhaps a boss or something from the Galaxy series, it’s hard to tell) can be spotted just off screen to the right. There’s also what looks like a red platform in the distance that might be possible to stand on, indicating it could end up being a moving stage like Rainbow Cruise or Delfino Plaza.
All in all though, it’s good news for Smash Bros fans everywhere, since it means that Nintendo is likely to feature the amazing soundtrack from the Galaxy titles in a Super Smash Bros game at long last! And we might finally some other things from the games making their way in too!
So that’s the latest Smash Bros for Wii U stage. What do you think? Is it impressive? Think there’s a chance it might have gravity mechancs or anything?
Oh hey, it’s a new character! Or at least, it’s sort of a new character, if you count two different variants of the same ‘character slot’ as different. Today Nintendo confirmed that the male Wii Fit Trainer would be in the fourth Super Smash Bros game as an option alongside the female one.
Here’s the picture confirming it:
So if you want to play as the Wii Fit Trainer for whatever reason but don’t feel like using a female playable character, or you just want a change, Nintendo has answered your pleas with the male Wii Fit Trainer as a playable character/costume swap.
Only as a Pokeball species mind you, but it’s at least proof that Pokemon X and Y will be represented in the upcoming game. Here’s the daily picture confirming its inclusion:
But now that gen 6 Pokemon are in the game, how will this affect the next character reveal and various other things? Could this be the first indication that Mewtwo might make its return with its Mega Forms as possible Final Smashes? That a stage based on a Kalos location could be present?
What other stuff from gen 6 will be included in Super Smash Bros now that Xerneas is confirmed as being in the game somehow?
As you likely now know, October 12th is the release date of the latest Pokemon games in the franchise, namely Pokemon X and Y. But is there a good chance that this date might also be marked by a Super Smash Bros Wii U/3DS reveal?
I think there is. And I also suspect that the next big reveal based on the series will be of Mewtwo as a playable character. Here’s why:
1. Pokemon X and Y is Nintendo’s biggest new release in months
And if Pikmin and Wind Waker HD are any indication, Nintendo likes to tie into these things with such stuff as their main characters being revealed for the new Super Smash Bros titles.
Above: Two great examples of characters announced to tie in with their new games.
So it seems likely that they’d choose tomorrow as a date to announce Mewtwo’s return or something similar, as an extra way to promote the gen 6 Pokemon games.
2. Mewtwo is an existing character
However, Nintendo hasn’t yet announced a newcomer at random in one of their daily posts. Olimar? Veteran character. Toon Link? Veteran character. Princess Peach? Veteran character.
This is simply because it’s not that time yet, and because Nintendo tends to like holding back on the new stuff until a big Nintendo Direct or something similar comes along.
And so I think that narrows it down to three possible Pokemon reveals; Pokemon Trainer, Lucario and Mewtwo.
But honestly? I don’t say the former two. The first because Red really isn’t relevant at this point in time and doesn’t actually appear in Pokemon X and Y in any form (remember, they want to promote games, not Pokemon Origins). And Lucario seems a bit irrelevant as well, because he’s not been Nintendo’s main focus for about two generations and is only a minor new Pokemon in gen 6.
Mewtwo on the other hand has had a big deal made of him in marketing materials, has gotten two new formes that could be worked into the Smash Bros gameplay somehow (maybe as Final Smashes) and is generally an old character a lot of people want the series to bring back again. So why not tie this in to the X and Y release somehow?
So all in all, I think there’s a good chance we might see a ‘new’ Pokemon character in the next Smash Bros official site updates. And that said character will be Mewtwo.
Agree? Disagree? Post why below!
In a move that should please many Super Smash Bros fans and come as a surprise to absolutely nobody, Nintendo confirmed in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation that Sonic the Hedgehog would be returning as a playable character in the next Super Smash Bros game.
Here’s some official art and screenshots showing him in action…
Yep, not too long after the announcement that Princess Peach was confirmed as a new playable character in the newest Super Smash Bros game, Nintendo announced that Toon Link was a playable character too! Here’s some official art and screenshots showing him from the official Super Smash Bros for Wii U/3DS website:
Yes, another veteran character has been confirmed for the upcoming game, namely Princess Peach from the Mario series! Here’s some official art showing her Super Smash Bros 4 redesign:
As you can see, she’s been made a lot more like her appearance in the actual Mario franchise rather than Brawl, with a more brightly coloured dress and more of a use of primary colours in general.
On the other hand… I can’t be the only one a tad creeped out by her eyes, right? I mean, her face looks almost morbid in how it looks, sort of like a doll more than an actual person. Either way, it’s mostly a decent enough redesign.
But with that said, how does she look in battle you may ask? Well here you go, some screenshots showing her fighting other characters in the game:
Take a look at this new screenshot from today’s official Smash Bros 4 website update:
As you can clearly see, the Villager and Mario are actually battling on the wings of the plane as it flies across the island in all kinds of amazing ways. Kind of like what those spaceship Star Fox levels should have been more like (instead of them basically being ‘Battlefield on a vehicle’).
Really, it looks pretty freaking cool if you ask me. Not to mention actually makes me more interested in this level as a whole (despite my complete non interest in either Pilotwings or Wuhu Island as a whole).
So what do you think? Does this new screenshot make the game (and this specific stage) look much better to you?
As you may have noticed, the forums for this site haven’t been available in quite a while now. This is because… well, to put it bluntly, I haven’t been too happy about the current design or setup there and have been constantly considering a new theme or updates to make it a better forum. And that itself has been put on the backburner due to my need to update both this site an Nintendo 3DS Daily with new content.
Still, I’ve had a few questions about the forums now (including someone ask when they’ll reopen), so would it be a good idea to reopen them soon? And if they were opened again, would anyone actually join them or post this time around?
Post your thoughts in the comments or something people!
